Word From The Head

Dean Close Preparatory School is a co-educational day and boarding school for children age 7 - 13. The School is set in 50 acres of private land in the centre of Cheltenham.
With 308 pupils, the Preparatory School is small enough to allow everyone to know one another and to get fully involved in the life of the School. Support and encouragement comes from many people within the community, but the boarding and day house system means that every boy and girl is nurtured by adults they get to know well.
The School is however large enough to have an extremely strong day and boarding community, vibrant and exciting creative arts, a remarkable sporting reputation and impressive academic results. Expectations are high and pupils are encouraged to make the most of every day.
The small classes and excellent facilities at the Prep School ensure good above average academic results. A strong tradition of music, art, sport and drama and a wide spectrum of extracurricular activities make it possible for every child to achieve success and confidence. The School offers Academic, Sports, Music, Design & Technology and Art scholarships at 11 . The Prep School also educates the boy choristers who sing evensong at Tewkesbury Abbey. Boys can apply to join the Schola Cantorum from age 7 - 11.
The Prep School has excellent facilities including a £4.5m building which includes a 350-seat theatre, music suite, ICT suite and state-of-the-art classrooms. The Prep School also benefits from the outstanding Senior School facilities which include a designated Music School with a digital music suite, a 550-seat professional theatre, an Amphi-Theatre, two floodlit water based astroturf pitches, a 25m indoor heated swimming pool, climbing wall, indoor rifle range, Chapel, dance studio and fully equipped Gymnasium.
The School believes that education is as much about building character and relationships as it is about gaining knowledge. Visitors regularly comment on the atmosphere, saying how warm and friendly they find it, with good relations between staff and pupils. It is felt that this positive environment can be attributed directly to the Christian heart and principles of the School.
