Romeo and Juliet is Sell-Out Success

Published by Uppingham School on Monday 24th of March 2025

Our school production of Romeo and Juliet brought the Bard's tragic tale of star-crossed lovers into a new era.

Completely selling out on both evenings, this reimagined version of Shakespeare's famous tragedy stunned audiences with its professionalism.

Mr Matt Bulmer, Uppingham's Director of Theatre and the director of the production, said: "This was a particularly special production. The acting was nuanced, sophisticated and demonstrated a maturity way beyond the typical school stage. Romeo and Juliet led an energetic and dynamic ensemble with performances that would have been just as compelling in any professional theatre.

"Our on-stage talent was superbly supported by a backstage pupil team who worked a series of minor miracles to help create something quite stunning. The set, sound and lighting designs of Mr Hunter, Mr Dixon and Mr Ellis elevated their usual exceptional level of production even higher. All in all, this was the best pupil play I have been involved in, and I believe it firmly established Uppingham Theatre as the very best at what it does."
