The Year 7 and 8 Science Fair took place on 8th November, filling the Singleton Hall with incredible projects and generating real excitement for the competition - especially for the Year 8 pupils, as it was their final fair.
The projects showcased a diverse range of STEM ideas, covering topics such as bruises, the mechanics of the ear, the Mandela Effect, orbits and gravity, quicksand, and even bath bombs. The judges listened with great interest and admiration to the young scientists’ discoveries, research, investigations, and trials.
Each year, selecting the winners is a difficult task, as all participants are exceptional and deserving of recognition.
The prizes this year were awarded as follows:
1st Place: Eilidh M (Year 8) for her project on the effects of exercise on mood. She used software programs and organised trials to test whether fresh air, walking, and running positively impact mood.
2nd Place: Monty O (Year 7) for his project on skateboarding, exploring how body positioning affects the distance travelled and linking his findings to Newton's Laws.
3rd Place – Madeleine V (Year 8) for her project on decomposition and the crucial role decomposers play in sustaining our planet. She even created a worm habitat, which will be displayed in the science lab for the next month.
This year, honourable mentions for outstanding presentations and creative ideas went to Oban H (Year 8) for his project on AI vs. Humans and Aoife R (Year 7) for her project exploring how the weight of a ball affects the distance it travels.
Well done, Year 7 and Year 8 - you did an amazing job!
