Lingfield Students Shine at THIMUN 2025

The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) Conference 2025 provided an incredible four-day simulation of the United Nations, bringing together secondary school students from across the globe. This prestigious event welcomed participants from Singapore, the Middle East, Zimbabwe, the UK, and beyond, all eager to engage in high-level debate and diplomacy.

The theme of this year’s conference, “The Impact of AI on Humanity,” challenged students to critically examine the ethical and societal implications of artificial intelligence. Our Year 9 – Year 13 students proudly represented St Kitts and Nevis and Bangladesh in various UN committees, including ECOSOC, DISEC, ECOFIN, SOCHUM, SPECPOL, G77, and the Environment Commission. Over the four days, they collaborated with international peers, presenting well-researched arguments and drafting resolutions to promote the responsible use of AI.

The conference began with a flag ceremony, followed by inspiring speeches from distinguished guests. Mayor Jan van Zanen officially welcomed participants to The Hague, known as the international city of peace and justice. AI expert Goda Mockute delivered a thought-provoking address, urging students to be "morally ambitious, critical but not cynical, idealistic but not dogmatic—and above all, to move fast, responsibly."

Our 16 Lingfield students represented both their allocated countries and our school with exceptional professionalism, demonstrating outstanding dedication, diplomacy, and teamwork. It was a privilege to accompany such hardworking and engaged students to this globally renowned event.
