On Thursday 14 March, Queen Anne’s students led a day of Dance, Music, Drama, and Art for #MyFreedomDay. This event is all about raising awareness for modern day slavery and human trafficking as part of CNN International’s Freedom Project. Our students expressed their views on both slavery and freedom throughout the day. Their incredible contributions included original poems, songs, speeches, readings, dances, and instrumental performances. Students, along with the help of our incredible Art Department, also produced various pieces of art to culminate a thought-provoking installation. These included a wall of responses to ‘What Freedom means to you?’ and a set of wings created entirely out of pens and pencils as students agreed that being creative and expressive through art and writing is an important form of freedom. These pieces grew as the event progressed as students and staff provided their own views on freedom or helped shape the vibrant wings.
Queen Anne’s was one of six schools chosen internationally to be live broadcast on across the world. CNN International sent a reporter and a camera crew to report on performances and conduct interviews with students involved in the day. They filmed content for videos published after the event as a collective with other schools around the world as well as executing a live broadcast from the Performing Arts Centre of the Twilight Dance Company’s amazing dance performance. This is the second year we were chosen to be broadcast live for this event showing the incredible impression the students left last year. This was a tremendous privilege and everyone involved did a spectacular job of representing everything Queen Anne's stands for.
As well as CNN broadcasting the day we also had our own correspondent creating social media posts and conducting interviews!
