Queen Anne's School Celebrates Biennial Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey

In a splendid display of tradition, Queen Anne's School marked a momentous occasion as we held our biennial service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey on Friday 26 January. The event, a privilege extended only to the five schools in the United Westminster and Grey Coat Hospital Foundation, was a service of thanksgiving and a celebration of the school.

It highlighted the talent and achievements of the students with students captivating the large audience with drama, dance, and music performances. Staff, students, parents, governors and alumni of Queen Anne’s School made up the 1300 crowd, including esteemed guests such as the Bishop of Reading.

Students wore their iconic red cloaks as part of the cherished tradition that brought together generations of the Queen Anne’s community, fostering a sense of pride and shared values of the school. They even received gingerbread for their journey home.

This service was special due to Mark Richards, the Senior Deputy Head, celebrating his 16 years at Queen Anne’s School before his departure later in the year. His incredible service to the school will be cherished and is a testament to the school’s staff.

Alumni Drinks at the Grey Coat Hospital School

We were honoured to host a memorable gathering, welcoming a large group of Queen Anne's School alumni from the class of 1950 all the way into the 2000s to a pre-Westminster Abbey drinks event. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and camaraderie as cherished connections were rekindled over shared stories and laughter.

In reflecting on the decades of shared experiences, it was truly heart-warming to witness the enduring bonds that have stood the test of time. From the earliest graduating class to those who recently walked our halls, the rich tapestry of Queen Anne's School history was celebrated.

As we gathered, the anticipation for the special biennial service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey heightened. These gatherings are a testament to the lasting impact of our students and many alumni sang in the choir.

We thank the Grey Coat Hospital School for hosting us on this lovely occasion and look forward to seeing many alumni at our upcoming Reunion Day.
