A Global School - The Oratory Prep School, South Oxfordshire

At The Oratory Prep School, we pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming, inclusive and diverse community that enriches the experiences of every pupil. One of our proudest traditions is our longstanding history of hosting Spanish pupils – a relationship that has flourished for decades and continues to thrive today. In September 2024, we welcomed seven Spanish pupils to the school, some boarding and some day pupils, joining us from Year 5 upwards. This year was particularly special as we welcomed back an ex-OPS pupil who had joined us from Madrid in the 1980s, now returning to introduce his own children to the joys of a British education. Many Spanish pupils initially join us for a term, eager to immerse themselves in British education and culture. However, more often than not, they fall in love with the school and choose to extend their stay, becoming a cherished part of our community. The presence of international pupils at The Oratory Prep School adds a global dimension to school life. Spanish pupils share their language, traditions and perspectives, creating a rich cultural exchange that goes far beyond the classroom. For our British pupils, this exposure nurtures curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world. Lifelong friendships are formed as children bond over shared lessons, sports, and activities. Hosting Spanish pupils is not simply an “added extra”; it is an integral part of The OPS experience, one that we believe helps prepare all of our pupils for life beyond school. The feedback we receive from Spanish pupils and their families is heartwarming. Many describe their time with us as transformative – not only improving their English skills but also giving them the confidence and independence to excel. For our British pupils, the benefits are equally profound. Learning and living alongside peers from another country leaves a lasting impression, cultivating open-mindedness and respect that will serve them throughout their lives. |
