22nd August 24Following on from last week’s A-level celebrations, students at Dunottar School were today receiving outstanding results across all subjects. 12 per cent of all grades attained were grade 9 and 53 per cent the top grades 9 to 7. This is particularly impressive as our students comprise a range of academic abilities.
Headmaster, Mr Mark Tottman, said, “I am absolutely delighted with this record-breaking set of GCSE results. I am immensely proud to see so many success stories and happy faces. Each achievement reflects the hard work, tenacity and aspirations of our students. Through our value-added education, students consistently outperform expectations. Not only have our students enjoyed significant academic success but have triumphed in sport, are talented musicians and performers, are enthusiastic participants in the school’s extensive co-curricular programme and are actively involved in charity work, community projects and volunteering. Equipped with a strong set of values and self-belief, these young adults really are Warrior Learners. I look forward to welcoming them, along with our new Sixth Form joiners, to the next stage of their education in our Sixth Form.”
Dunottar’s state-of-the-art Sixth Form centre provides a dynamic learning environment that prepares pupils for university education and apprenticeships with leading companies. This year, 86 per cent of students achieved a place at their first-choice university. Students thrive in a Sixth Form with small teaching groups, personalised support and exceptional pastoral care.
Anya T said, “I am over the moon with my results. I would like to say a big thank you to all my teachers for all the support they have given me. I could not have done it without them! I am now looking forward to studying A-levels in Music, Spanish and Psychology and playing cello in the school orchestra.” Filipe D’A added, “I am thrilled with my results. I could not have imaged achieving these results when I joined Dunottar in Year 7. I worked really hard for my GCSEs but what made it all worth it was how much fun I had along the way. The support from my teachers and the engaging lessons made studying enjoyable and I am now looking forward to joining the Sixth Form.”
These GCSE results continue to secure Dunottar’s place as a first-choice independent school in the area with students joining from over 40 prep and primary schools. During the summer term, Dunottar was inspected by the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) and received an extremely positive inspection report which concluded that, “Pupils flourish in their academic work from their individual starting points. Pupils are inspired to discover and develop their talents and make the most of the opportunities before them. Everyone looks out for each other in this caring and nurturing school.”
Mr Dan Hawker, Governor and Year 11 parent said, “As a parent, I have seen the difference that Dunottar makes to the children it nurtures. My son has benefited from the value-added that the school provides academically, in sport and creatively. Dunottar develops well-rounded, confident, community-focused children who achieve more highly than they otherwise would have done.”
