Year 6 pupils at Chepstow Racecourse
Published by Dean Close School (St Johns) on Thursday 25th of July 2024
Our Year 6 pupils had an exciting day at Chepstow Racecourse where they applied their maths skills in context of horse racing.
The children had the opportunity to go behind the scenes to see the horses arrive, see the jockeys weighing room where they learnt about the handicapping system, walk the course, and run a half furlong!
They used their mental maths skills to convert between imperial measures, stones, lbs, furlongs, miles to metric equivalents km and kg.
After lunch, the children learnt how to read a race card, find out more about racing and the highlight of the day, watch the races!
Many thanks to Ollie at Racing to School for running a fantastic trip and Chepstow Racecourse for hosting us!
