Ryde School Sailing Success

Ryde School’s sailing team have finished the season on a high! Ryde hosted the BSDRA Team Racing Finals last week which was not only the biggest turn out in the history of the event but also the biggest team racing event in the world so far this year with over 50 teams competing including teams from China, US and Ireland.

The first Ryde School team (Fred, Noah, Killian, Finn, Annabelle and Charles) came 2nd overall and were placed 1st school and the BSDRA Team Racing Champions. The Ryde School junior team (Olly M, Olly S, Cassius and Ellie B) came 3rd in their fleet against some highly rated teams.

The team then travelled to the National Youth Match Racing championships in Weymouth and won again! This was not a school event and one that the school was not expected to win. Fred, Noah, Ruby and Killian did an astounding job with consistent results all weekend. In the finals, a best out of five races made for some very tense viewing. However, despite all odds, they came out victorious becoming the U23 National Match Racing Champions. The team they beat had not lost a race all weekend and was made up of three current national champions. This stunning performance has qualified the Ryde School team for the Match Racing World Championships in Jeddah in November.

Earlier in the season Ryde School also won the Schools’ Fleet Racing Championships, meaning that Ryde School has won the triple! As far as Ryde can work out no other school has achieved this ever!
