Last term Year 13 student Alex Felice made BMS history as the first student ever to achieve a phenomenal 100% in his London College of Music Diploma in Music Theatre (DipLCM), an award which demands a standard of performance equivalent to a first-year undergraduate module.

Mrs Bottone, a visiting music teacher specialising in singing here at BMS, guided Alex through his DipLCM training. She explained: “Alex researched his repertoire fully and found an exploitable dramatic link between his songs, which he took advantage of, delivering an absolute master class in theatrical performance. There was an atmosphere in the room as he skilfully took the examiner on a journey, and his supporting tests were delivered with pinpoint accuracy. His absolutely outstanding 100% is thoroughly deserved- a triumph!”

Of his success, Alex said: “I am over the moon to receive this result, and still in shock! I really feel that I’ve grown as a performer while putting my Diploma programme together. It has equipped me with skills that will be hugely valuable as I go on to pursue a career in theatre, both on the stage as an actor and off stage as a writer and director. I am very lucky to have had an exceptional and inspirational singing teacher in Mrs Bottone and her expertise and encouragement were invaluable as was the support of the wider Music Department.”

Alex joined BMS for his Sixth Form studies and during the past two years has immersed himself in the co-curricular life of both the Music and Performance Arts faculties. A talented singer, he has been a dedicated member of the Chamber Choir, School Choir, Vocal Quartet and Groove Collective as well as performing his own song compositions in lunchtime concerts and Open Mic Night. He played the leading role in Our Town in 2022 and most recently appeared as Joe Casey’s Dad in Our House, always showing exceptional understanding of his characters.

In September he hopes to read English and Theatre Studies at the University of
