A Level Results 2023

Despite the grading system being adjusted to pre-pandemic levels this year in England, causing a drop in top A Level grades, students and staff at BMS are nonetheless celebrating today with a set of results which show an uplift on those achieved in 2019.

A Levels were the first public examinations that this cohort of students sat as their GCSE grades were based on assessments made by teachers. However, their commitment and determination has been rewarded with 82% of grades awarded at A*- B, a 3% increase on the results achieved four years ago, 52% of grades marked at A*- A, and more than a third of all students achieving three A grades or better.

Three students achieved a clean sweep of four A*s each. One of them, Jagan, who studied Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics spoke of his success and said: “I was happy and relieved to find out my results. I joined BMS in Year 3 and so this is the end of a long journey for me, but I have had massive support from my teachers every step of the way and studying in such amazing facilities as the Science Centre has been great. I’m now looking forward to studying Natural Sciences at Durham University.”

Headmaster, Alex Tate, commented: “After three years of disruption together with the Government’s determination to revert to grade boundaries akin to 2019, it is impressive indeed that this year’s set of A Level results show a demonstrable improvement. This cohort of students should be very proud of their achievements, and I would like to offer them my personal congratulations and wish them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

“I would also like to commend the staff who consistently go the extra mile for their students and who ensured that a BMS education continued uninterrupted even during turbulent times. My sincere thanks go to them all.”
