National Piping Success For Strathallan Students
Published by Strathallan School on Tuesday 26th of September 2023
Congratulations to Strathallan School students Harry T and Rory M who have both received fantastic news this weekend with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.
After a successful audition, Harry T has secured a place in the Senior Pipe Band and Rory M, who has been with the Junior Pipe Band for three years has been promoted to the Development Band.
Harry, who joined Strathallan two years ago, said, “It’s such an honour. I’ve always wanted to be part of it and to be accepted is brilliant. I grew up around piping and great pipers and it means so much to be offered a place in the Senior Band. It just feels like everyone in the National Youth Pipe Band are passionate about piping and I can’t wait to get started.”
Harry, who also plays with The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, said that the opportunities to practice his pipes at School helped him prepare for his audition.
“I’m fortunate to get to practice every day and the teachers are pretty incredible. The new piping hut is a perfect place to go to play a few tunes every afternoon. It’s a been great addition to the school.”
Meanwhile, Rory, who began his journey with Strathallan earlier this year, has achieved a significant milestone by progressing to the Development Band.
“I’ve been piping since I was 7 years old. I joined the National Junior Pipe Band when I was ten so to now move up to the Development Band feels amazing. The pace of change and new bandmates is exciting. I love piping because of the friends that I have made along the way.”
A proud former product of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and the current Director of Traditional Music and Scottish Culture at Strathallan School, Craig Muirhead, said, “We are very proud of all our pupils who were given auditions for the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland this year and would like to congratulate Harry on being offered a place in the Senior Band and Rory on his promotion up to the Development band. These are incredible achievements, and we look forward to seeing what they do next.”
