Strathallan Trio Claim Scottish Championship Titles

Strathallan School students Findlay M, Alistair R and Tally M have finished their 2023 Canoe Slalom season with Scottish Championships titles.


Findlay M won the J18 C1 Men’s title, the Mark Delaney Trophy, the Scottish Team’s trophy and retained the C2 Title with his sister and fellow student Tally M, holding on to the Riverside Trophy for the second year in a row.


Findlay said, “It felt good to bring home the C1 Men’s trophy this year and to win C2 with Tally.”


Alistair who picked up the J16 C1 Men’s for the second year in a row as well as the J16 K1 Men’s title. He said, “It felt great to win the K1 as its very different but I love the challenge of both disciplines. I was really happy to win C1 again, it shows that I can be consistent on the water.”


Tally, who steered her way to first place with Findlay in C2 category, said their strong partnership and impressive performances throughout the season culminated in again C2 title.


“After we won together last year our communication has got better and we’ve had a strong season paddling in Europe and Scotland.”


The three Perthshire pupils previously paddled to podium positions in June, picking up a series of trophies at the Scottish Schools Championships in Alva before heading off to the Junior World Cup Series in Augsburg Germany over the summer.


Strathallan Canoe Club has a strong history with the school, helping former pupils paddle for Great Britain and Scotland including: Eilidh and Angus Gibson (Canoe Slalom), Crawford Niven (Canoe Slalom), Sandy and Wills Fotheringham (Whitewater Racing) and includes those who have raced for Scotland; Fraser Glasgow and sisters Laura and Natasha Pottinger.


The club, run by Jane and Gary Gibson, utilises the spacious school pond, swimming pool, and local riverways to ensure paddlers get as much time as possible on the water throughout the year.


Strathallan Canoe Club is open to all and welcomes paddlers from all levels for canoe slalom through to paddleboarding and social paddling.
