Strathallan School student Georgie H has been selected to represent the Isle of Man in the upcoming U19 European Netball Championships, set to take place at Loughborough University.
Georgie, a passionate netball player since the age of 10, expressed her excitement about the upcoming tournament. "I wasn't sure if I was going to be picked, so I'm really happy to be going," she said.
First selected to represent the Isle of Man netball team at the age of 14, Georgie has consistently demonstrated her skills and dedication to the sport. "I've always enjoyed netball," she explained. "I love playing sport and the competitiveness. You enjoy it because you are with your friends."
Alongside her netball achievements, Georgie has also thrived academically at Strathallan School. "I came to Strathallan to improve my academic options," she said. "I came to do Highers but I'm doing A-Levels. I want to go on to do neuroscience, and I've already gotten to explore the nervous system in biology, which has been fantastic. I'm loving boarding because I've never boarded before, and I made friends instantly."
The transition to Strathallan has also provided Georgie with ample opportunities to pursue her sporting passion. "I get to do so much sport which I didn't at my last school," she said. "I'm getting so much time on court, it’s fantastic.”
As a member of Strathallan's 1st VII netball team, Georgie trains twice a week and participates in at least one to two matches a week, as well as playing for Perth District netball, giving her valuable match practice.
When she’s not on court, Georgie has been training with Strathallan’s new Head of Althetic Development in the state-of-the-art Strength and Conditioning suite. "I can feel myself getting stronger. I’m getting the chance to refine my skills and practice more in Goal Attack as well as Goal Shooter.”
Georgie will join her fellow island teammates at Loughborough University in December, ready to showcase their skills and compete against the best in Europe.
Strathallan's Netball Teams continue to go from strength-to-strength, with our Open and U14 teams progressing to the next round of Cup and our U15 team advancing through to the Plate in this year's Scottish Schools Netball Competition.
Head of Netball, Louise Waugh, said, "We are incredibly proud of our teams. who have had an incredible year. Our 1st VII U18 team became Scottish Independent School Champions in Feburary, our U13 team became Scottish Schools Cup Champions in April and they have continued to contribute to their District clubs at a high level."
"With our girls being named Perth and Kinross School Team of the Year in 2022-23, we are excited to see what they can continue to achieve on court in 2024. I already know the girls are looking forward to some international matches during their Tour to Dubai in February."
