Local School's 1st XI Tops National Independent Performance League

Haberdashers' Monmouth School 1st XI shares joint top spot of the Schools Football National Independent Performance League. The league comprises of 150 schools across the UK.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth School 1st XI have risen to joint top of the Schools Football National Independent Performance League.

The league, which covers independent school football teams from across the UK, ranks schools with the best playing record, based on the accumulation of wins.

Led by captain Tommy Chubb, the squad is made up of players from Year 11, 12 and 13.

Among the standout players are Dougie May, Arthur Lawson, Ryan Stanley, Noah Rice, Alfie Baillie, Lewys Evans, Zac Williams, Harry Bailey, Jake Talbot, Ruben Berry, Luke Rees, Todd Rollinson, Iestyn Jones, Logan Williams, Freddie Leeke, and Will Lewis. Each member has played a crucial role in the team's success, contributing to their impressive performance on the field.

Speaking about the team's success, Mr M Tamplin, Master i/c Football, highlighted the hard work and determination that has driven them to excel, both individually and collectively. “What a fabulous start to the season for the boys. The team are playing a great game of fluid, passing football and, when needed, are mixing up their style to suit the conditions. We have reached the semi-final of the ISFA competition and are due to play St Paul’s, London – I am so proud of them all, you just can’t fault their work ethic, commitment and team spirit.”

Currently, the 1st XI shares the top spot with Robert Gordon’s College (Scotland), beating 151 other independent schools in the league.

Headmaster, Mr Simon Dorman, commented, “I am delighted to watch the fantastic progress of our 1st XI, who are unbeaten so far this season and have reached the semi-finals of the national cup. The boys work incredibly hard for each other in matches and training and receive the very best of coaching from our dedicated football coaches under the leadership of Mr Tamplin. We look forward very much to the visit of St Paul’s School in London, our opponents in the semi-final.”

As the season progresses, the 1st XI remains focused on maintaining their stellar performance and aiming for further success. With their skill, determination, and teamwork, they are poised to continue making waves in the world of school football.
