CCF Cadets Attend South Molton Remembrance Service

Published by West Buckland School on Friday 17th of November 2023

With the rain holding out and the scarlet poppies glowing against the dark clouds, West Buckland School Combined Cadet Forces were ready to join the South Molton Community at the Town’s Remembrance service on Sunday 12th November 2023.

Organised by the Royal British Legion of South Molton and invIted by the Town Clerk, Andrew Coates, Pilot Officer (RAFAC) Liz Cwilewicz, the Contingent’s Staff School Instructor, proudly lead the 15 smartly dressed cadets, from both the Army and RAF Section, onto the parade. The cadets were beaming and ready to go for the short circular parade leading into the well-attended Pannier Market with over 80 attendees.

The Parade was warmly greeted into the Pannier market by the um-pah of the South Molton Town Band, alongside lots of well-dressed organisations including the South Molton Army Cadet Force, regular serving military personnel and the local scouts unit. Parents proudly joined the service whilst the cadets took part. Leading the church service was St.Mary  Magdalene with the Royal British Legion, who kindly requested 6 of our cadets to undertake the ‘charitable bucket collections’ during the hymns, which was conducted with grace, efficiency and a smile. PO Cwilewicz lay down the wreath and saluted.

The cadets held out well in the cold as we stood to attention for the 2 minute Silence and National Anthem. They did West Buckland School and the Community proud and set a precedence for the commitment West Buckland Students show to their school and community.
