'Why Study Languages?' Careers Event

Published by Tudor Hall on Wednesday 27th of September 2023

On Tuesday 27th September, we held our first Careers Network Dinner of the year on the topic ‘Why Study Languages?’ to coincide with Languages Week at Tudor. Presenting via Zoom from Barcelona, where she is currently studying as part of her Erasmus Joint Masters Programme in European Politics & Society,

OT Greta Scott (2018) gave a wonderful overview of her experiences of studying in a range of universities across Europe. Her passion for languages was evident and wide-ranging, including her recently-acquired Swedish language skills.

OT Bella White (2011) was able to join us in person to speak about her experiences studying Spanish and French at Trinity College, Dublin, the opportunities language learning opened up for her and the travel she has enjoyed as part of her work in the branding and advertising sector thanks to her language skills.

Both speakers reflected on their time at Tudor, highlighting how important languages have been in their academic and social lives, and encouraged our students to make the most of every opportunity. Bella still has links with the orphanage in Bolivia that she felt “privileged” to work with as part of our Tudor in 3 Continents volunteering programme.

The evening was rounded off with a delicious meal and further opportunity to discuss where languages could take you – literally and metaphorically.
