Well Done Everybody!

Published by St David's College on Thursday 17th of August 2023

Having overcome a course disrupted by COVID restrictions our pupils have achieved a 97% pass rate across all Level 3 qualifications with nearly one-third of grades awarded being A*- A or Distinction*- Distinction.

Our psychology students did particularly well, with many distinction grades and most are going off to their first-choice universities studying the subject.

Stand-out performances include Head Boy Harry Boyle, who is heading off to University to study mathematics and statistics. He achieved an A* in Maths, and A’s Physics, and Chemistry.

Harry said: “I’m really happy with my results, and to think before I came to St David’s I wasn’t a fan of school or really maths.

“What the school has given me, apart from incredible teachers like Mr Bohana and Mr Cogger, is confidence and I’ve enjoyed interacting with so many incredible people from all sorts of different backgrounds.”

Rowan is off to Aberystwyth University to study Geography after achieving a Merit in Applied Science, B in Geography, and a Distinction plus in Outdoor Education.

He said: “The school has helped massively with giving me confidence and helping me with my dyslexia.

“The Outdoor Education has helped me with resilience, and giving me leadership skills, and developed my passion for the outdoors.”

Edwin said: “I feel top of the world, I’ve had an A in A level maths, A in chemistry AS level, and a Distinction Star, in Outdoor Education,” said Edwin.

“What St David’s has given me is to help me understand my thought processes, rather than just being told things I can now understand them by thinking them out myself.”

Erin, our former Head Girl, is off to Liverpool Hope University, to study Psychology and Sociology, after developing a passion for the subject whilst studying it with Mrs Davies.

She said: “Mrs. Davies is just an incredible teacher, and my time here has been amazing as I’ve really thrived with the small class sizes, as it’s easier to put your hand up in a small class.

“I’ll miss the supportive atmosphere and my friends and the teachers.”

Head of Academics, Mr. Mark Turner, commented: “Overall, I am really pleased with how our pupils have performed.

“They have had to overcome significant challenges in recent years and for many this was the first time they had sat formal external examinations.

“Our range of vocational and academic qualifications have again enabled all pupils to access a curriculum that plays to their strengths. This has again allowed our pupils to get the qualifications that they need to allow them to move forward into the next phases of their lives, whether that be university, apprenticeships, or employment. I wish them all the best of luck and I know they will be outstanding ambassadors for St David’s College.”

St David’s College Headmaster, Mr Andrew Russell said: “It's truly heart-warming to witness our pupils’ dedication paying off with these well-earned outcomes. We are incredibly proud of all of them! I am equally proud of the St. David's staff who have been an amazing source of encouragement. I am looking forward to witnessing the incredible things these pupils will accomplish in the future.”

Congratulations to everyone.
