Brentwood’s double inclusion in the prestigious Schools Guide 2024 came at the end of a long and exhaustive selection process which saw a huge number of schools submit entries for a coveted place in the top 100 Senior, the top 50 Prep/Junior and the top 20 all-girls’ schools.
Neil Gamester, Director of Sport (3-18), said, “We are delighted to again be included in The Cricketer’s 2024 Schools guide, highlighting the emphasis that we place on cricket across the whole school. We can confidently say that all students from all year groups receive outstanding coaching, which is only possible due the hard work shown by staff, both during the winter nets programme and the cricket season. It is pleasing to see so many girls and boys enjoy their cricket, which is highlighted through the number of students playing competitive fixtures. It is a team effort and I would like to thank all the staff and students for their commitment and dedication to the cricket programme.”
The prestigious list includes schools across the country, from Dulwich to Durham, and from Watford to Worksop. Each entry was judged against extensive selection criteria, including a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.
Brentwood has strong links with Essex CCC and the School’s list of illustrious cricket professionals includes former Essex batsman, Brian Hardie, Ashes hero Geraint Jones, and the current incumbent, former Essex batsman Jaik Mickleburgh.
The Cricketer is the sport’s oldest magazine and has retained its position as the world’s most respected and best-selling cricket magazine. The Cricketer magazine editor Huw Turbervill said: "Our 2024 Schools Guide celebrates the best cricket programmes in state and independent schools across the country. The rise of women’s cricket in schools really has been a joy to behold. It is a pleasure to read the write-ups.”
The Cricketer researches and produces the Schools Guide annually, with the 2024 edition being supported by Durant Cricket – one of the country's leading suppliers of cricket ground equipment.
Cristian Durant, managing director of Durant Cricket, said: "At Durant Cricket, our relationship with The Cricketer holds immense value. Once again, they've showcased the outstanding commitment and coaching standards upheld by schools nationwide.”
