International Women’s Day
Published by Bootham School on Thursday 9th of March 2023
We have been marking International Women’s Day all week here in school!
On Monday, we kicked things off with a visit from International Rugby star Savannah Le Roux who ran a series of touch rugby workshops with our girls. They loved it and are really keen to play again. Savannah was able to signpost them to local clubs and hopefully we will be able to play here again! Later we heard from former Res Grad and England Rugby star Grace Field during Morning Meeting – she was so inspiring and passed on wonderful advice about resilience and recovering ourselves from setbacks.
On Tuesday, our College 1 volunteers made their second visit to Westfield School as part of their Reading Café project. They focussed on sharing literature featuring inspiring female characters and the children loved joining in.
Wednesday saw our Worldshapers attend York Minster’s Days for Girls event run by YorKits, where they helped to cut, sew and package hundreds of reusable hygiene packs for girls and women across the world who experience period poverty. The event was a great success and the girls really enjoyed taking part, they were wonderful ambassadors for our school.
And all week we have been collecting hygiene products for York Hygiene Bank – we have been inundated with such thoughtful contributions and the Hygiene Bank are absolutely thrilled and cannot wait to pick it all up at the end of the week.
