St Edmund’s Star Golfer Shines At British Par 3 Championship

A talented pupil from St Edmund’s College & Prep School is celebrating outstanding golf success after qualifying for and competing in the Farmfoods British Par 3 Pro Am Championship.

A talented pupil from St Edmund’s College & Prep School is celebrating outstanding golf success after qualifying for and competing in the Farmfoods British Par 3 Pro Am Championship. The annual event, which is steeped in golfing history, welcomes Ryder Cup legends and celebrities from the showbiz world to play alongside professionals and amateurs.

Year 10 (Syntax) St Edmund’s student, Lewis K., competed at the 90th British Par 3 Championships in August after winning the Len Goodman Junior Qualifier. Lewis made it through to the Championship following a dramatic play-off and a stunning 15ft putt for a birdie. The final hole caught the attention of Sky Sports, who interviewed Lewis about his experience and the prospect of playing alongside some of the best golfers in the world.

The British Par 3 Championship is an action packed, fast-paced game, which is renowned for its inclusivity. Professionals, amateurs, celebrities, disabled players, men, women, and players of all ages compete alongside one another on the course at Nailcote Hall Hotel, Golf and Country Club, near Coventry. The course, which has been home to the Championship since 1996, boasts a prestigious 9-hole course that has a reputation for its narrow fairways and tricky greens.

In 2023, famous participants included rugby player Rory Underwood, sports presenter John Inverdale, Olympic athlete Derek Redmond, former Westlife member Brian McFadden, and legendary golfer, Tony Jacklin CBE, who posed for a picture with Liam after his qualification.

The British Par 3 Championship holds a special place in the history of British golf. First hosted at Torquay’s Palace Hotel in 1933, the inaugural championship has been graced by some of the all-time great players.
