Celebrating Linguistic Diversity At Lingfield College

Published by Lingfield College on Friday 29th of September 2023

Students at Lingfield College celebrated the European week of Languages.

Students had the opportunity last week to learn about the unique and exciting experience of guest speaker Mrs Rhiannon Jones, journalist and presenter, whose personal experience of learning Portuguese and Spanish enabled her to pursue a career in Sports Journalism, leading her to meet celebrities such as Ronaldo and Messi and cover events such as The Champions League. Students learned about how languages can lead to a variety of opportunities.

Teachers offered taster lessons in Japanese, Macedonian, and Italian, allowing students to acquire beginning phrases in a new language as well as interesting facts. Mr Hawley outlined why there are several words for the number four in Japanese; Mrs Woolven presented students with an entirely different alphabet that they effortlessly learnt how to speak; and Mrs Fournès got students singing in Italian.

The experience was complemented by some delicious food tastings made by our Catering Team. The highlights were Greek moussaka, Spanish paella, Italian tortellini, and, of course, some exquisite desserts!

Thank you to all the teachers and students who participated in the events, as well as the Catering Staff for their time and effort.
