ISI Report – Excellent!

Published by Holme Grange School on Thursday 16th of March 2023

We are delighted to announce we have received the highest grade for both Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) categories in its Educational Quality Inspection (EQI):

· The quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent; and

· The quality of pupils’ personal development is excellent.

The Inspectors noted ‘Pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding across the curriculum are outstanding, strongly supported by well-structured and carefully planned teaching.’ The Inspectors observed how pupils needs were met and how they were constantly challenged and confident to ask questions to enrich their understanding. ’Pupils of all abilities achieve excellent examination results, enabling them to progress to educational establishments of their choice’.

Due to the pandemic it has been 8 years since the school’s last EQI in 2015 at which time we were also awarded Excellent in All Areas. Since this time there have been many changes at the school – it extended up from 13 years to 16 years and there have been 5 years of GCSE examinations.

Headteacher, Mrs Claire Robinson said, “To be awarded the highest judgement possible by the ISI, again, after the school has developed and extended the age range we teach, is testament to the commitment, care and dedication of such a wonderful team of staff at Holme Grange. We truly are an Authentic, Ambitious, Courageous and Inclusive Learning Community and our Inspection report captures the essence of what we are about as a school.

To have all areas of our school praised and recognised as ‘excellent’ is to be commended and I cannot express how proud I am of the pupils in our School. Their attitudes to learning, their independence and the success they achieve across our extensive school curriculum, was reported and acknowledged at all ages in the School. They deserve to be recognised and together, staff and pupils can take credit for the wonderful learning environment we have at Holme Grange – where we encourage our children to be brave, bold and to believe in themselves and their ability to succeed – and the inspectors witnessed this when they came.”

The Inspectors commented that the pupils ‘display outstanding attitudes towards their learning’ and ‘are diligent, resourceful learners’; observing how well pupils worked independently and collaboratively to achieve their learning.

In the pupils’ personal development review the Inspectors noted ‘Pupils have an excellent awareness of the importance of helping others and caring for those younger’ and ‘Pupils demonstrate excellent contribution to others’. This is due to the pupils’ active involvement in community and sustainability initiatives and the time and effort they devote to charity work and fundraising.

Head, Claire Robinson concluded: “I could not be prouder of our school community and thank all pupils, parents, sta
