Hamton Small Boats Head 2022

Published by Hampton School on Tuesday 3rd of January 2023

Hampton rowing welcomed over 3,000 young rowers from schools and clubs across the country to the 2022 Hampton Small Boats Head.

The annual event involves a 3,000m time trial from Sunbury Lock to Hurst Park. Crews navigate the route one after the other, with their individual times recorded and medals awarded to the highest placed finishers. A brisk and breezy day brought good racing conditions on the Molesey stretch of the River Thames, and there were plenty of supporters lining the river banks cheering on the junior oarsmen and women. There were some strong performances from Hampton’s 26 crews including a Gold medal for the J15 coxed quad of Henry Hoeffken, Monty Hunt, Leo Robertson, Freddie Mundell, coxed by Ben Knight.

Hampton’s Director of Rowing, Mr Colin Greenaway, thanked all involved:  Head:

THE 2022 HAMPTON SMALL BOATS HEAD WAS A GREAT SUCCESS, AND THE STANDARD OF RACING WAS EXTREMELY HIGH. IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE SO MANY YOUNG ATHLETES OUT ON THE WATER, RACING AND ENJOYING THEMSELVES. THERE WERE SOME VERY STRONG PERFORMANCES FROM CLUBS AND SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, WHICH IS TESTAMENT TO THE HOURS OF TRAINING EVERYONE INVESTS TO HELP DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS AND ATHLETICISM.
