Opening Of Our New Multi-Use Games Area

Published by Twyford School on Wednesday 14th of December 2022

We welcomed Hampshire Cricketer Keith Barker and Southern Vipers captain Georgia Adams to Twyford School on Saturday 10th December, to formally open our new MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) and cricket nets.

The all-weather surface will complement our existing astroturf and hardcourt netball courts whilst also providing first class cricket practice facilities for the boys and girls all year round.

Fundraising for the MUGA took place amongst the Twyford School community and was generously kick-started by a departing family who proposed replacing our well-worn older nets. The project ev

olved when the opportunity presented itself that re-orientating the existing nets and expanding their footprint the area could provide sufficient space for an additional netball sized court whilst also incorporating four lanes of retractable cricket nets.

Dividing the area of the court by the remaining sum required resulted in the cost “per square” being £50 which meant the project was accessible to many. 70 families amongst the Twyford community generously contributed to the fund.

Keith Barker, fast bowler, and Georgia, Captain of the Southern Vipers, formally opened the MUGA and then a couple of intrepid Year 8s faced their bowling in the nets!

Saturday also saw the Christmas Cracker Fair taking place and a crowd of parents gathered to see the opening with a mulled wine and mince pie in hand. The Parent v Staff Netball matches then took place – netball replacing football due to the frozen pitches!
