Abbotsholme Arts Society

Published by Abbotsholme School on Tuesday 22nd of November 2022

Did you know that Abbotsholme has a world-famous Arts Society? Elite performers from all over the world have been playing here for over 50 years.

Abbotsholme Arts Society was started in 1968 by Gordon Clark, the Director of Music at Abbotsholme School. There have been well over a thousand concerts, films, readings, lectures and discussions by many of the finest in their field in the world during the five decades that have followed. Dame Judi Dench, Yehudi Menuhin, Humphrey Littleton, John Dankworth and Cleo Lane, James Galway, Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason; they have all performed right here in our Chapel for us.

Although the Arts Society is run separately, the school remains its principal venue, meaning Abbotsholme students have these concerts on their doorstep and are granted free entry; their families can join them for a minimal ticket price of £25.

The next concert is on Friday, 25th November at 7.30 pm. Jack Liebeck, a well-known violinist, played as a soloist at Abbotsholme last year. Now he returns with Amandine Savary on the piano and Thomas Carroll, cellist, as the Salieca Trio. The combination of violin, piano and cello is a favourite for music lovers around the world. All three are engaging communicators, performers and educators.

Each artist has performed at the highest level internationally and on the world’s leading concert stages. For their concert at Abbotsholme they will be playing Dvorak, Ireland and Ravel. There is more information and you can book tickets on the Arts Society website. All members of the Abbotsholme family are welcome.
