Year 10 Scholars – Virus Statistics!

Year 10 scholars led by Maths teacher and former statistician Mr Andre Hon investigated the mathematics behind the spread of Covid and the various measures used to try and mitigate as well as predict future trends.

Starting with calculus and moving on to the use of models, students were able to see what flattening the curve actually meant and how changes in one variable such as rate of transmission had such significant effects. It was a fascinating session and helped the students to have some insight into the graphs they are all used to seeing on Prime Ministerial broadcasts.

The lesson forms part of the Scholars Programme which includes workshops and lectures overseen by our Head of Academic Scholarship, Mr Cavendish.
