GB Indoor Hockey Coaching Session

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 15th of April 2016

On Monday 12th January, before the start of the new term, 12 boys in the U16 indoor hockey squad were treated to the specialist knowledge and skills of Andy Halliday. Andy is the current England Men’s and Women’s Indoor Hockey Coach and was delighted to be asked to help coach the boys, not least because squad member Adam Bassingthwaighte is the son of an ex-teammate and old friend. Andy started with a classroom session during which he used a variety of video clips to illustrate the fundamental principles of indoor hockey. To illustrate the principals and theory from the classroom, the team then moved to the Sports Hall where Andy set up a number of exercises. Mr Brooks, the team’s coach, commented that ‘after an hour and forty five minutes the boys’ body positions, team structure and ball speed were much improved, and their attacking play in general had become more fluent and accurate.’ Mr Brooks would like to extend his thanks to Andy for being so willing to come to the College to pass on his knowledge and passion for the sport. The squad includes: Keir Ansell, Adam Bassingthwaighte, Ben Brooks, Jamie Brooks, Joshua Brown, Cameron Fearon, Thomas Grove-Smtih, Matthew Jones, Bradley Moon, Jake Morris, Edward Patton and Tom Winfield.
