Rugby Team of the Season

Published on isbi School News dated Tuesday 17th of March 2015

The Under 12As have been the stand-out team at St Benedict's School this season, winning 17 out of 18 matches, scoring 682 points while conceding only 84, and ending the season ranked 3rd in the whole country.

They have continued that successful streak during the Sevens season, winning three out of four tournaments. Their first win came in the Dulwich Sevens on Sunday 8th March with victories over Hampton (14-5) in the quarter-final, Trinity (24-0) in the semi-final and the hosts, Dulwich, by a thumping 31-0 in the final. The win over Trinity was particularly sweet as it had been Trinity who had thwarted Bennies in the London Oratory Sevens on 1st March, winning 34-21 in the final.

The U12s continued their winning run in the John Fisher Nines on Friday 13th March, beating RGS High Wycombe 34-0 in the final, with tries from Ben Page (3), Luke Decosta (2) and Ethan Wetherell. Barnaby Morris kicked 2 conversions. The run of three consecutive wins was completed two days later when they were successful in the Reigate Sevens, beating Wimbledon 26-10 in the semi-final and then an emphatic win over Trinity by 47-7 in the final. Ben Page (3), Daniel Fayinka, Luke Decosta, Aadidev Bhatt and Barnaby Morris all contributed to the feast of tries with Morris converting 6 of them.
Coach Ron Mushiso sums up: 'It has been a season to remember for the entire squad. Everyone from the A, B and C teams and our parents who were very supportive, all played a part in this success story. The two defeats in the Middlesex Cup final and London Oratory 7s final taught us some valuable lessons and we never looked back. We now need to build on this and get even better for next season.'
