Leweston School, near Sherborne, Dorset, is delighted to announce that Elizabeth Tolley, Year 9, has been ranked as the NUMBER ONE BIATHLETE IN THE WORLD for her age group.

The incredible accolade, awarded by the UIPM (The International Modern Pentathlon Union) is the result of points gained across the 2014 Biathle World Tour. Elizabeth accumulated the highest number of points across this series of international events, leading to her being crowned the winner of the Youth C category (for girls aged 14 and under).

The 2014 Biathle World tour was made up of a series of events around the world with races in Argentina and Cuba, as well as the four races Elizabeth competed in: Pisa in Italy where she won, Erding in Germany where she also won, the European Championships in Setubal near Lisbon, Portugal where she finished 7th and Weymouth, UK where she was placed 6th.

Five other pupils from Leweston also featured in the 2014 Biathle World Tour rankings: Elektra C (Year 7), 25th in the Girls 12 and Under division; Portia M (Year 9), 11th and Poppy B (Year 9), 48th in the Girls 14 and Under category; Olivia M (Year 11), 6th and Daisy L (Year 12), 32nd in the Girls 16 and Under group.

Director of Sport at Leweston, Mr Paul Miles, commented, 'It is a phenomenal achievement to be ranked number one in the world in any sport and this ranking is a testament to Elizabeth's ability and the commitment she has shown to her rigorous training regime. It has been an astonishing few years for sport at Leweston, particularly for the multisport events, indeed 6 pupils, with Elizabeth leading the way, achieved a world ranking after their exploits for Great Britain in the Biathle World Tour. All of these girls are keen to follow current Sixth Former Rebecca Bowles (Year 13), onto the World Class Programme and are certainly heading in the right direction.'
