New Building Projects at St Benedict's

Published on isbi School News dated Friday 29th of August 2014

St Benedict's School, Ealing has received planning permission from Ealing Council to go ahead with two exciting building projects on the school site along Montpelier Avenue. Architects van Heyningen & Haward have submitted stunning designs for a new Sixth Form Centre and Art, Design & Technology Building and for a purpose-built extension to the Junior School. The total investment will be around £12million.

Work began in mid-August on the Sixth Form/ADT project which will be built next to the Science Building, with the contractors, Jerram Falkus, completing the demolition of the old ADT building in a day and a half. The new building will create a purpose-built space for the Sixth Form to study and also relax and socialise. Art, Design and Technology will gain a fit-for-purpose and inspiring new teaching and learning facility. The new facilities should be ready for use by the end of 2015.

The Junior School project will follow on once the Sixth Form/ADT building is complete. It will create a coherent identity for Early Years and Juniors in a single new building. The Nursery will be brought on site from its present location at 1, Montpelier Avenue into purpose-built accommodation, as part of a new Early Years Foundation Stage Centre. There will also be new classrooms for Pre-Preps 2 and 3, new reception and office areas.

Landscaping around the new buildings will provide an improved whole school pupil entrance, improved external play areas, a new Nursery entrance and a relocated Sixth Form entrance.

Headmaster Chris Cleugh said: 'These projects are hugely exciting and will ensure that the School offers the very best accommodation for teaching and learning. The decision demonstrates the commitment of the Governors to lead a School that will continue to flourish in the years ahead.'
