Ellie continues to be one of the best

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 19th of May 2014

Congratulations to Abbey Gate College Year 7 pupil Ellie, who is proving to be a very accomplished writer. She has recently had a story, The Gingerbread Men, published in a compilation book called 'A Twist In The Tale' with her entry being chosen from thousands of entries from the UK and abroad. Following on from this she received third prize, and was highly commended, for her essay which was entered into the Independent Schools Association Essay Writing Competition.

Ellie has now just learnt that her entry into the BBC Radio 2 500 words competition has been judged, from over 118000 entries in her age category, to be in the top 25 in the country. As a result of this she has been invited to a special Radio 2 Breakfast Show which is being broadcast live from the Hay Festival on 30th May, when Chris Evans and a host of celebrity guests will reveal the 6 medal winning stories. To read the story, 'The Palm Watching People' please follow the link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2hCVHcCMn15kg9jJc9tgh7n/the-palm-watching-people or alternatively go to the BBC Radio 2 website and follow the links from there.

Ellie developed her considerable writing ability whilst at Aldford School, which is the Infant and Junior Department of the College, and her current English teacher, Mrs Nerys Moses, comments 'Ellie's eyes light up when she has a piece of writing to produce. She crafts her writing with great care and spends time considering appropriate language to use to create the desired effect on her reader.'

The College would like to congratulate Ellie on all of her achievements and we hope that she has a fantastic experience at the Hay Festival at the end of May.
