Six Prep schools visited Oundle School's SciTec to compete for the second annual Prep School Science Cup.Teams of four Year 6 pupils from Beeston Hall, Old Buckenhem Hall, Spratton Hall, St Hugh's Lincoln, Orwell Park, and St Anselm's Preparatory School enjoyed an afternoon of practical, and at times spectacular, science.
Over the course of three hours, the teams completed practical work involving locusts, burning magnesium, cold science, and explosive reactions. The teams were graded on their scientific thinking, enthusiasm, practical ability, and understanding whilst completing these practicals.
After all the scores had been added up, the Oundle Science Cup was awarded by the Headmaster, Charles Bush to the St Anselm's team, who received a shiny trophy, as well as iTunes vouchers for each team member.
Head of Science at Oundle, Oli Peck, 'If we are serious about producing the scientists of tomorrow it is important to start investing today. Getting younger pupils enthusiastic about science, through practical work is an excellent way to develop a love of not only science, but of learning.'
