Oundle pupils take to the slopes

Published on isbi School News dated Monday 20th of January 2014

On 14 December, a party of First to Third Form (Year 7-9) pupils from Oundle School took to the slopes in Courmayeur, Italy for a week of ski instruction and fun.

Zoe Onyett (13) commented, 'We stayed at the Hotel Télécabine in the small town of Courmayeur which had access to the main télécabine that took you up to the local ski area, where we met our ski school instructors every morning. The skiing in Courmayeur consisted of a range of runs including two blacks, some learning slopes and the majority red and blue runs. As well as skiing we enjoyed ten-pin bowling, the gelateria, a pizza night and a quiz.'

Trip Organiser and Biology teacher, Walter Holmstrom commented, 'The trip is run every two years and while snow was a little thin on the ground at the start of the week, by the end there was more than enough snow for everyone - from beginners to experienced powder-hounds. Zoe's father and former Oundle pupil, Mark Onyett also joined us for skiing on the last day. Mark did the Welsh 14-Peaks with me in 1989, as well as an expedition in Belize in the same year. It was great to meet up and ski with him on this occasion.'
