Continued Academic Growth for Mount St Mary's

Pupils, teachers and staff at the Mount are celebrating after the Derbyshire/Spinkhill school's Alevel results continued the academic growth established last year.There was an increase in the number of pupils achieving top grades with a rise in the pupils achieving grades A* and A, up by 4% to 29.1%. Number of pupils gaining A* - B was 52% and A*- C 74%.
The school's Art and Design department achieved 91% A* to B across all their subject areas and the Biology department had 70% of its pupils achieving A* to B. Other departments that achieved high percentages at A* to B were Physics 67% and Mathematics 64%.
Amongst the high achievers are pupils with aspirations to read physics, history, languages, mathematics, economics, engineering, art and design.
Kishan Adoni from Ravenfield in Rotherham achieved two A*s in Biology and Physics with two As I Chemistry and Mathematics. Kishan will read Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Leicester University.
Alex Chatten from Owlthorpe, Sheffield produced an A* in Mathematics and two As in Biology and Physics. Alex will go on to read Product Design Engineering at Loughborough University. Alex will be joined at Loughborough by Head Boy, Nathan Higgins who achieved A in Design Technology and two Bs in Physics and Mathematics. Nathan will read Mechanical Engineering.
Habiki Kaibuchi who lives in Harthill achieved As in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics and a B in Further Mathematics. Habiki is going to read Mathematics at Warwick University.
Our female fencing champion, Isobel Mulkern from Totley, Sheffield achieved two As in English Literature and French with a C in Latin. Local boy, William Coleclough achieved an A* in Economics/ Business studies, an A in Geography and a B in Accounting. William has deferred his place to read Accounting at Nottingham University in order to complete a Gap year.
The artists and designers were led by two pupils, Bradley Cutts, achieving an A in Photography and two Bs in Product Design and 3D Design. Elizabeth Massarella also achieved an A and two Bs in Textile Design (A), 3D Design and Photography (B). Bradley will read Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University and Elizabeth will read Fashion at Northumbria University.
Fabio Grassi from Rotherham will be reading International Business Management, Economics and Finance at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy following his A in History, B in Politics and D in Mathematics.
