Published on isbi School News dated Friday 14th of June 2013

Twenty-five athletes competed at the Norfolk Schools' Athletics Championships on Saturday 8th June with many athletes achieving personal best performances.

Gold medals were awarded to Marius Siddall (Senior Boys' High Jump), William Dugdale (Junior Boys' High Jump) and Harry Haughton (Junior Boys' 800m).

Two significant results were that in winning the Junior Boys' High Jump, William Dugdale not only jumped a personal best of 1.72m but also achieved the qualifying standard for National Schools. William is waiting to hear whether he has been selected for one of the twenty-five places available at the National Schools for Norfolk athletes. Harry Haughton was a gold medal winner in the Junior Boys' 800m in a time just outside the National qualifying standard.

Matthew May broke the Junior Boys' 200m School record previously held by Nick Chesworth (1975). Matthew's time was 24.1, beating the old record by .4 second and just .1 second outside the National Schools' qualfiying time. Nick Chesworth still holds seven school records, which reflects the achievement by Matthew - watch this space Mr Chesworth!

The girls also were successful with Alice Gill, Lily Denham, Sophie Sondhi and Georgia Beckett all finishing second in their respective events.
