Congratulations to Ben Hooper, for winning the London Mini Marathon last weekend. The London Mini Marathon and British Athletics Road Championships are run over the last 3 miles of the London Marathon course from Old Billingsgate to The Mall. Ben, in Year 8 at Lambrook, was selected to represent South East England as part of a team of 6 in the U13 boys' race. It was a strong field with all the top ranked boys from the X-country season involved in the race. After a good start Ben managed to hold his position in the lead group and looked comfortable as he passed the two mile stage on the Embankment. With 600m to go he made his move and out-sprinted the National Cross country champion. Ben's winning time was 16 mins 27sec.
Afterwards he was presented with his trophy by HRH Prince Harry and was interviewed by Athletics Weekly...which all took a lot longer than the actual race!
