Godolphin girls win Salisbury Rotary Youth Speaks competitionThe Godolphin Intermediate Public Speaking team delivered a stunning presentation to win the Salisbury Rotary Youth Speaks competition last night at Leehurst Swan School. Celia Wells (Chairperson), Anna van der Horst (Speaker) and Lizzie Tossell (Proposer) spoke with great elegance and passion on their subject of choice, Women Bishops.
The girls expressed their disappointment at the General Synod's decision to not afford women the opportunity to take the role of bishop within the Church of England and explored the rationale behind this choice in a carefully structured speech. Anna then answered a challenging question from the floor regarding her opinion as to the results of the next vote in 2015.
The judging panel commended them for their eloquence, humour and excellent use of quotations to support their argument. The girls were thrilled, and a little surprised, to beat their rivals from Bishop Wordsworth's School and Leehurst Swan! The regional final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition will take place at the John Hanson School in Andover on Wednesday 13 February.
