From Rhian Thornton, Headmistress

Upton House is a progressive and highly regarded Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep school educating boys and girls from aged 2–11 years.

Located in the heart of Windsor, Upton boasts excellent academic standards, high calibre staff and a warm and nurturing environment where children blossom and are prepared with confidence for the very best senior schools. Individual talent is developed, and a progressive curriculum offers a balanced co-education ensuring children are equipped with vital life skills for the future.

“Our children progress to their next schools as confident, successful and independent individuals. We were delighted to be awarded ‘Excellent’ in all areas in our Independent Schools Inspection Report.” Rhian Thornton, Headmistress

Although non-selective, over 40% of Form 6 children have achieved one or more scholarship offers for the past two years. Details of scholarships and next schools can be found on the website. Means-tested bursaries are available for those entering the school.

The Little Upton Nursery is a very special environment where children begin their Upton journey from as young as age two years old. Little Upton is open a flexible 48 weeks a year should parents require this provision and benefits from being in a beautiful whole school setting. Staff are highly qualified, experienced practitioners and engage the children in stimulating, challenging and exciting activities that enable them to develop their love of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Specialist subjects include French from two years old as well as regular PE and music lessons.

Facilities in the Pre-Prep and Prep departments at Upton House include an arts block which houses music rooms, an art and DT studio and a music studio that enables all the children to create and record as part of music technology lessons. A wide range of individual music instrument and singing lessons are also available. The latest addition to the school is a brand-new purpose-built multimedia room which includes 20 wall-mounted monitors, three large presentation screens, iPads, a 3D printer and a laser cutter. This room allows us to deliver our bespoke digital fundamentals curriculum to the highest standards. Our pioneering live-streamed events run by our Broadcasting Club share our events and activities to our global family online. All classrooms are furnished with interactive whiteboards, and iPads are used daily by pupils to support learning throughout the school. More specialist subject teachers from Form 3 result in wonderful achievements and successes for every child. Facilities also include a broadcasting studio, drama and dance studio, gymnasium and two libraries.

Diverse sporting activities include netball, rugby, football, hockey, cricket and athletics as well as judo, fencing and ballet. Sporting fixtures are a key weekly part of Upton life and we hold home matches at the beautiful York Club in Windsor Great Park. Upton has a dedicated swim team with squad training twice each week and has achieved great success in the IAPS swimming championship finals for the last two years.

The school has been assessed and awarded the NACE Challenge Award which is external validation of school-wide high-quality provision/challenge for all.

Children at Upton House enjoy breakfast club from 7.45am, healthy meals prepared on-site and a wide range of after-school extra-curricular activities until 6pm including teacher-supervised prep for older children. Holiday clubs are run on-site outside of term time. An active PTA organises many fundraising events through the year and helps to forge close links between the school and parents.

    ISI Inspection Report 2017

Excellent relationships between all in the school community enable pupils to have high levels of self-confidence and, as a result, they are willing to explain and discuss their learning in class with their teachers and peers.

You manage a very valuable balance between being streched and challeneged on one hand, and supportive and nurturing on the other.
