Brentwood is an Independent co-educational HMC School standing on high ground to the north of the town in 75 acres of playing fields. It is located 20 miles North East of London, close to the M25/M11 motorways and within easy travelling distance of London's major airports. Day and boarding education is provided for both girls and boys who are taught separately between 11 and 16. The Sixth Form is fully co-educational as are all co-curricular activities. A broad education is provided up to and including GCSE so that all options beyond 16 remain open. A Sixth Form of around 320 students ensures a wide choice of A Level subjects. Generous Academic, Music, Sport, Drama and Art Scholarships are awarded annually. Examination results are very good and most students gain places at university including some each year to Oxford and Cambridge.
A wide range of co-curricular activities is provided by a dedicated staff; it includes Orchestras, Choirs, Societies, Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and sports such as football, rugby, cricket, hockey, netball, fencing, athletics, swimming, tennis and squash. National success has been achieved in cricket, football, golf, squash and in the Public Schools Fencing Competition. Excellent facilities include a superb Sports Hall complex with Fencing Salle, Squash Courts, new Science laboratories, a new Art, Design and Technology Centre (1999), an all-weather pitch, a Performing Arts Centre (1999) and an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre (2002). In November(2011)HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, opened the School's new Sixth Form Centre including a multi-purpose 400-seat auditorium. In 2016, the final touches were put to the award-winning Bean Academic Centre - the intellectual heart of the School.
